Major Motoko Kusanagi from Masamune Shirow's "Ghost in the Shell" is one of my favourite characters, but until now I've never drawn a picture of her that I felt did her justice.
Because her body is made up of artificial materials, I tried to give her skin a shiney plastic-like look.
Shirow is fond of giving his female characters skin-tight almost transparent body suits, and I tried to duplicate that concept on the light grey parts of her outfit, particularly her chest. I even added a transparent skin layer over these areas to make them only about %60 opaque and allow her nipples to show through.
In order to create the effect of Motoko materialising/dissappearing by the use of her "Thermoptic Camouflage" I duplicated and solarised her on a layer beneath, and then used the erase tool to fade her out from her waist down.
I think the detail of the Tachikoma showing through is very effective..
The Seburo C-26A rifle is not the easiest weapon to draw, being a very ergonomically designed piece of equipment, all flowing lines and curves molded to the shape of the hand. I used my Motoko Cy-girl's weapon as a reference.
Over all, I'm very happy with how this turned out.
Next time I might go for a more active pose.. or I might go in the other direction and do a cheescake version of her!
Anyway, Enjoy!
